BLACK PANTHER actor Chadwick Boseman was awarded a Golden Globe this weekend for his performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, a gift that places the late actor in history.

Avengers Endgame and Black Panther star Boseman was nominated for a Golden Globe posthumously within the Netflix film. The movie came out three months after the tragic death of the 43-year-old actor.

The star’s death was announced on August 29, 2020. His official Twitter account posted the news, stating: “It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman.

Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III carcinoma in 2016, and battled with it these last four years because it progressed to stage IV.”

Boseman was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Actor, movie Drama for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom in last night’s virtual ceremony.

In the film Boseman played Levee, a trumpet-playing musician who constantly clashed together with his boss, Ma Rainey (Viola Davis).

The film received rave reviews, with many critics praising Boseman’s “Oscar-worthy” performance.

The award places Boseman in history because the first Black actor to win a Golden Globe posthumously.

Accepting the award on Boseman’s behalf was his wife, Taylor Simone Ledward.

Fighting through tears, Taylor said during a video: “He would thank God. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices.

“He would thank his incredible team… he would thank his team on set for this film.”

“He would say something beautiful. Something inspiring. Something that might amplify that tiny voice inside all of that tells you you'll, that tells you to stay going... that calls you back to what you're meant to be doing at this moment.”

Taylor added: “He would thank Mr George C Wolfe, Mr Denzel Washington, he would thank Ms Viola Davis.

“I don’t have his words. But we've to require a flash to celebrate those we love. So many thanks, HFPA for this chance to try to do exactly that.”

In a final moving moment, Taylor added: “And honey… you retain ’em coming. Thank you.”

George C Wolfe previously predicted the actor would be nominated for an Oscar within the upcoming 92nd Academy Awards.

Wolfe told the Independent: “That will happen because it happens. I do know this might sound filled with it, but i feel it’s one among the best performances ever captured on film. Period.

“It’s an astonishing performance: how naked it's, how viscerally powerful it's. There’s charisma then there's the reality and he's crammed with both.”

Davis, who was also nominated for her role within the movie, recently praised Boseman and his performance also .

She said: “Chadwick Boseman deserves [awards recognition].”

Davis continued: “This is someone who did the work, who learned the trumpet.

“I mean, those long three, four-page monologues, are you kidding me? He did the work and he did a unprecedented job.”

After the actor’s death his family made a press release saying: “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you a great many of the films you've got come to like such a lot .

“From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and a number of other more - all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It had been the honour of his career to bring King T'Challa to life in Black Panther.”
